Five years ago, a Saturday night in Northgate meant getting in the car. Dinner was somewhere south on Academy. Live music meant downtown. A rainy afternoon with the kids meant the mall.
This summer, the driving is happening in the other direction. People from Briargate, Monument, and the north end of Colorado Springs are pointing their cars at North Gate Boulevard and Voyager Parkway, and the residents who already live inside that grid are the ones with the shortest commute to the best summer in the city.
The Threshold Northgate Crossed This Summer
The thesis is small and specific. Northgate did not become an entertainment district in 2026. It became one gradually over the past decade as the area around North Gate Boulevard and Voyager Parkway, anchored by Ford Amphitheater and surrounded by TopGolf, iFly, DartWars, OverDrive Raceway, Bass Pro Shops, and Phil Long Music Hall at Bourbon Brothers, filled in as the city's entertainment center. What changed this summer is density. Enough venues opened close enough together that a resident can plan an entire weekend without leaving a two-mile radius, and the last major piece is arriving in the middle of the season.
That piece is Surf Shack. The 12,000-square-foot venue is opening next to TopGolf with a FlowRider Double surfable wave, a trampoline-like cushion underneath, a sauna, outdoor beach volleyball courts, a hot tub, and food and drinks, with an expected debut in summer 2026. Add that to the Hotel Polaris opening last winter and you have a neighborhood where the answer to "what do you want to do tonight" no longer requires a highway.
Residents already living inside this grid own the calendar. Everyone else is a visitor.
What Is Actually New Between Memorial Day and Labor Day
The list of new-or-nearly-new arrivals around Polaris Pointe is long enough that a lot of longtime residents have lost track. Here is a working inventory of what has come online recently or is imminent this season:

Polaris Pointe is home to Bass Pro Shops, Boot Barn, Bourbon Brothers Smokehouse & Tavern, Kneaders' Bakery & Café, hundreds of apartments, the amphitheater, Phil Long Music Hall at Bourbon Brothers, iFly, TopGolf, Overdrive Raceway, Air City 360 Adventure Park, and Magnum Shooting Center. Stacked against a single ZIP code, that is more entertainment square footage than most Colorado Springs neighborhoods will see in a generation.
Hotel Polaris, One Year In
The Hotel Polaris has quietly reset what dining in Northgate means. The hotel at 8989 North Gate Blvd. at the U.S. Air Force Academy officially opened as a home to six diverse culinary experiences, and it has spent its first year settling into a routine most residents can now use without ceremony.
Pamela's is the anchor. The restaurant is named in honor of Jerry Bruni, a 1970 Academy graduate, and his wife Pam, and it serves Northeast chowders, West Coast cioppino, grilled steaks, and seafood alongside all-day brunch and dinner. Springsmag's 2026 best-of coverage described it as grounded in traditional upscale fare in a midcentury modern atmosphere with Space Race-era light fixtures and a mountain view, serving all-day brunch and dishes like lamb lollipops with a pesto glaze and honey miso glazed salmon. Dinner entrees run roughly $29 to $58.
Then there is the vertical experience that residents underuse. Take the elevator to The Aviator rooftop, where expansive views of the Academy and the Rocky Mountains sit alongside shareable appetizers and craft cocktails, or drop into Doolies, a modern take on a classic soda shop with model F-16s flying overhead, aviation-inspired décor, traditional American bites, flight simulators, and lawn games. Doolies runs Thursday through Monday, closed Tuesday and Wednesday, which is worth writing down.
The Monday and Wednesday Rhythm Most Residents Miss
Here is the local knowledge that separates a resident from a visitor. The best hours in Northgate are not Friday night. They are Monday and Wednesday mornings at the Western Museum of Mining and Industry, where the Summer Farmers Market runs on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning in June. The parking lot is empty by mid-morning, the produce is unpicked, and the museum is a five-minute drive from most homes north of Interlocken.
The same museum hosts the neighborhood's most durable summer tradition. In June, people head to the Western Museum of Mining and Industry for the Pikes Peak Celtic Festival, held since 2013, with piping and athletic competitions, bagpipe performances by the local Pikes Peak Highlanders, and happy hours with specialty cocktails. If you moved in during the last two years and have not been, this is the event that makes the neighborhood feel small in the right way.
Ford Amphitheater keeps its own drumbeat on top of that. This year the sesquicentennial is landing here specifically. Highlights of the A250 and CO150 celebrations include an extra big Star Spangled Symphony and Fourth of July Fireworks show at Ford Amphitheater, which for Northgate residents means a walkable summer holiday if you live in the right pocket and a very short Uber if you do not.
A Realistic Saturday From Your Driveway
Skip the itinerary that assumes you are visiting. Here is a Saturday built for someone whose garage door opens onto this ZIP code:
- Coffee and a walk before 8 a.m. at Bad Ass Coffee, then a loop around the Polaris Pointe perimeter before the parking lots fill.
- Monday-Wednesday only: the WMMI farmers market. Saturday alternative: drive four minutes to a bakery run and be home before 9:30.
- Late morning at iFly, Overdrive Raceway, or Air City 360 if you have kids in tow. Escapology if you have teens.
- Lunch at Red's Sunset Grill or Vaqueros. Vaqueros at 9605 Prominent Point runs 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 to 10 on Fridays and Saturdays, with a breakfast, lunch, happy hour, and dinner menu.
- Afternoon at Surf Shack once it opens, or an early tee at TopGolf while the sun is still high.
- Cocktails on The Aviator rooftop before sunset. Dinner at Pamela's or Bourbon Brothers.
- Live music. Ford Amphitheater and Phil Long Music Hall at Bourbon Brothers are both inside a ten-minute walk of each other, and if you drove, you already parked once.
Nothing on that list requires a highway. That is the point.
What Is Worth Watching as the Season Turns
Two threads to keep an eye on. First, the Polaris Pointe build-out is not finished. A Texas de Brazil steakhouse and Surf Shack, an indoor water surfing venue, are planned at Polaris Pointe, and Chipotle's construction is underway. Second, the residential side of the district keeps growing. Thompson Thrift is developing Switch, a 276-unit Class A community at 13200 Voyager Parkway on 11.9 acres at the intersection of Voyager Parkway and North Gate Boulevard, with eight three-story buildings, one to three-bedroom units averaging 1,000 square feet, and amenities including a fitness center, heated pool, dog park, and a Starbucks. More rooftops mean more restaurants that stay open past nine.
If you have been in Northgate for five years or more, you have watched this happen in slow motion. The summer of 2026 is when it finishes reading as coincidence and starts reading as a plan.
